THE PROBLEM: Medication Non-Adherence
The World Health Organization estimates that only one-half of the patients in the US take their medications as prescribed!
CMSA is educating and motivating about the "epidemic" of non-adherence! Why?
Studies show that 10 percent of all hospital admissions and 23 to 40 percent of all nursing home admissions are the result of non-adherence — the cost: some $100 billion a year from non-adherence alone. Even a one percent reduction in non-adherence would save the health care system $1 billion, not to mention the benefits to patients. The consequences of non-adherence include a decrease in quality-of-life and increase in avoidable healthcare costs. Studies cited in CMSA's Case Management Adherence Guidelines (CMAG) show the magnitude.
CMAG addresses the national epidemic of non-adherence to medication therapies. Now in its second version, CMAG is an enhancement of the original material with expanded tools and intervention techniques and additional recommendations for hospital care settings.
Specifically designed for case managers, CMAG will enable you to work successfully with patients in medication adherence and health behavioral change.

What is CMAG?
It is a training program focusing on "Successful Discharge" for special populations: Hospital, workers' comp, and elderly patients. New material will also assist you in explaining the financial and clinical impacts of medication adherence programs.
In addition to the enhanced materials, you will cover the information from the original CMAG, which enables you to:
- Understand the factors related to non-adherence by defining adherence terminology and introducing the CMAG Adherence Management Algorithm
- Define "Health Literacy" and the "Realm R-Tool"
- Understand the Medication Knowledge Survey and the importance for the patient
- Explain the "Willingness to Change Concept" and the "Readiness to Change Ruler"
- Illustrate the importance of a social support network while utilizing the Functional Social Support Questionnaire for assessment
- Develop the ability to differentiate the Morisky Scale and the Modified Morisky Scale defining when to utilize this assessment
