CMSA is proud to bring back DoD/VA Military Day as part of CMSA’s 27th Annual Conference & Expo. The day-long event provides service leaders with a prime occasion to present the state of their service branch. In these sessions, case managers will be updated on strategic goals, enterprise-wide initiatives, recent policy and procedure changes and performance measures applicable to each branch (Army, Air Force, USMC, US Navy, Coast Guard, VA).

Military Day Keynote
The Value of an Inter-disciplinary Team Approach in the Management of Sleep Disorders

Objectives:

  • Appreciate how sleep disorders can impact multiple comorbidities across numerous medical specialties
  • Understand how a multi-disciplinary team approach, which includes case managers, social workers, psychologists and physicians, can improve outcomes in patients with complex sleep disorders
  • Understand how to recognize and overcome systems-based and team-based barriers, with a goal to improve holistic transitions of care

Christopher J. Lettieri, MD, FACP, FCCP, FAASM is a Professor of Medicine and currently serves as the Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine Consultant to the Army Surgeon General; Senior Medical Advisor to the Joint Chiefs of Staff; and Director of Global Operations, Office of the Joint Staff Surgeon.  COL Lettieri received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.  He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Tripler Army Medical Center and received his fellowship training in Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

Prior to his current position, Dr. Lettieri has served as the Chief of Medical Residents, a team leader for the US Army Special Medical Augmentation Team, Chief of Walter Reed’s Sleep Disorders Center, Medical team leader for the Raven Rock Mountain Complex, and the Assistant Deputy Commander for Medical Services at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Most recently, he served as the Sleep Medicine Fellowship Program Director at the National Capital Consortium. He completed Operational assignments as the Battalion Surgeon for the 1st Infantry Division in support of Operation Shared Accord, Team Surgeon for JTF-FA (Asia-Pacific), and Chief of Medicine and Critical Care Services for both the 14th and 31st Combat Support Hospitals in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Dr. Lettieri has been the Chair of the American Thoracic Society’s Section of Terrorism and Disaster Medicine, Chair of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine’s Education Committee, and a member of the Executive Board of the American Sleep Medicine Foundation. He currently serves as a Board Member for the National Sleep Foundation, the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, The American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine, and the American Academy of Cardiovascular Sleep Medicine. He is also a member of the Food and Drug Administration Advisory Board and seven editorial boards. Dr. Lettieri has served on numerous national and international task forces and working groups for Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine topics.

COL Lettieri is a graduate of the Command and General Staff College. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, and Sleep Medicine. He has received several teaching, research and achievement awards.  Most recently, these include the Surgeon General’s Physician Recognition Award, the Admiral James Zimble Award for the Outstanding Program Director, The Major General Lewis A. Mologne Award for Outstanding Academic Medicine, the William Crosby Excellence in Research Award, and several Faculty Teacher of the Year Awards.  He is a recipient of the US Army’s “A” proficiency designator and was selected into both the Order of Military Medical Merit and Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honors Society.
