SUMMARY:CMSA Southern Ohio Valley (1CE): It’s All About the Big Mac: A Lesson in Food Allergies and Food Insecurity
DESCRIPTION:Register Here! \nIt’s All About the Big Mac: A Lesson in Food Allergies and Food Insecurity\n1 hour CCM \nCMSA Members: $0\nNon-Members: $10 \nFood allergies are a serious and potentially life-threatening condition affecting more than 33 million Americans\, including 1 in 13 children.  For many individuals and families\, managing food allergies goes beyond avoiding certain foods—it also intersects with issues such as food insecurity\, social isolation\, anxiety\, and access to safe nutrition. \nJoin the Southern Ohio Valley Chapter of CMSA for an informative one-hour webinar that explores the realities faced by individuals living with food allergies. This presentation combines evidence-based information\, real-life perspective from a food allergy parent\, and practical insights to help case managers better understand how food allergies and food insecurity affect everyday life. Participants will gain an overview of the major food allergens\, learn about the growing prevalence of food allergies\, and explore how the concept of food as medicine can support individuals who must navigate dietary restrictions while managing limited access to safe foods. \nThis program is designed for professionals who work with children or adults living with food allergies\, including case managers and other healthcare professionals involved in assessment\, care coordination\, and resource planning. \nPresented by Michelle Brusio\, MSN\, RN\, CCM\nClinical Manager\, Population Health\nUniversity of Maryland\, Upper Chesapeake Health  \nMichelle Brusio has been an RN for 26 years and in Case Management for 20+ years. Michelle has acute care\, payer\, primary care\, and outpatient case management experience.  She loves to mentor other case managers and is always looking for ways to be a better leader for her team. Michelle serves on several local committees including the Geriatric Assistance Information Network and the Hartford County Advisory Board on Aging.  Michelle also serves on several CMSA committees and is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Nursing Leadership.
