SUMMARY:SE Coalition hosted by CMSA Atlanta (1 CE): The Ethical Use of Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare: Integrating Case Management\, Utilization Review\, and Human Collaboration
DESCRIPTION:Information & Registration Here \nThe CMSA SE Education Coalition cordially invites you to join us at the January 2026 Educational Webinar: \nThe Ethical Use of Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare: Integrating Case Management\, Utilization Review\, and Human Collaboration\nNetworking 6:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. ET - Presentation 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. ET\n \nArtificial intelligence (AI) offers significant potential to enhance efficiency\, accuracy\, and personalization across healthcare\, particularly within case management (CM) and utilization review (UR). However\, realizing these benefits requires a strong ethical foundation that ensures AI supports healthcare professionals. Ethical AI integration depends on core principles such as transparency\, fairness\, accountability\, and equity. This includes using representative\, bias-mitigated datasets; ensuring algorithmic explainability; protecting patient privacy\, consent\, and autonomy; and establishing robust oversight and regulatory structures. \nWithin human-in-the-loop models\, clinicians and case managers can leverage AI for tasks such as data processing\, chart review\, predictive modeling\, and denial management while maintaining ultimate authority and clinical judgment. Thoughtfully designed AI systems can identify care gaps\, support targeted interventions\, and advance equitable care; without proper safeguards\, they risk reinforcing disparities or undermining person-centered values. As AI continues to evolve\, interdisciplinary collaboration\, continuous monitoring\, and adaptive ethical frameworks remain essential for responsible adoption. \nAttendees will leave this session with a clear understanding of the ethical considerations necessary for safe and effective AI use in CM and UR; the role of human oversight in maintaining clinical integrity; and practical strategies to mitigate bias\, protect patient rights\, and ensure algorithms support equitable\, person-centered care. They will also gain insight into real-world applications where AI augments workflows without sacrificing professional accountability or patient trust. \nLearning Objectives\nLearners should be able to:\n1. Describe the ethical principles relevant to AI deployment in case management and utilization review.\n2. Explain the role of “human-in-the-loop” and human collaboration in ethically integrating AI into CM and UR workflows.\n3. Recognize the potential risks and equity concerns associated with AI use in healthcare and propose strategies to mitigate them.  \nSpeakers:\nDr. Heaven Provo\, MBA\, DNP\, RN\, CCM\, PHNA-BC\, NE-BC\, LNFA\, CAHIMS\, FCM\nBen Parkison\, MBA\, MS Eng \nCost:\nCMSA Members: Free\nNon-Members: $25.00 \nTo become a member of CMSA\, visit https://cmsa.org/membership

SUMMARY:CMSA Southern California (3 CEs) - CMSA Southern California Quarterly Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Registration & Information Here \n7:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. PT | 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. MT | 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. CT | 10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. ET \nTopic 1\nCase Management Ethics: Navigating Challenges with a Steady Moral Compass (1 CCM Ethics)\nIn an era marked by evolving healthcare policies and heightened political polarization\, professional case managers must anchor their practice in ethical principles to ensure quality\, equitable care for all clients. This presentation explores the ethical foundations of case management\, focusing on the CCMC Code of Professional Conduct and CMSA Standards of Practice. The five core ethical principles of autonomy\, beneficence\, fidelity\, justice\, and nonmaleficence will provide a basis from which attendees will examine contemporary dilemmas arising from changes in legislation\, health coverage\, and immigration enforcement\, and learn how these challenges intensify ethical pressures in daily practice. \nThrough case scenarios and discussion\, attendees will gain insights into applying ethical principles to real-world situations\, such as advocating for patient autonomy\, ensuring justice in care delivery\, and upholding fidelity despite resource constraints. The presentation also highlights the importance of acknowledging personal biases\, mitigating disparities\, and fostering inclusive\, trauma-informed care environments. Case managers’ unique position as ethical leaders and advocates within interprofessional teams will be emphasized\, along with practical strategies for self-care and resilience against moral distress. \nBy returning to the core tenets of ethical practice\, case managers can confidently navigate complex\, politically fraught circumstances\, reinforcing their professional identity and commitment to compassionate\, equitable care. This session will empower case managers to use ethics as an active guide—not just a written standard—anchoring their decision-making in times of uncertainty and change. \nLearning Outcomes: At the end of this presentation\, attendees will be able to:\n1. Define the five foundational ethical principles—autonomy\, beneficence\, fidelity\, justice\, and nonmaleficence— and describe their application in case management practice.\n2. Analyze real-world ethical dilemmas faced by case managers in the context of shifting laws\, policies\, and societal pressures\, and identify strategies for ethical decision-making\, including application of the CCMC Code of Professional Conduct and CMSA Standards of Practice.\n3. Explore the role of case managers as ethical leaders and advocates for equitable\, trauma-informed care\, including approaches to addressing personal bias and promoting policy change \nPresenter: Dr. Raine Arndt-Couch\, DSW\, JD\, LCSW\, CCM\, FCM\nDirector of Social Services Management\, Medi-Cal Population Health Management\, Blue Shield of California \nTopic 2\nMedically Tailored Meals: They’re NOT Artificial\, but They ARE Definitely Intelligent\n\n“You are what you eat” is ancient wisdom\, but medically tailored meals (MTM) are part of the modern Food as Medicine movement. Project Angel Food is an accredited member of the Food Is Medicine Coalition and one of the leading providers of MTM in the country\, making and delivering more than 1.5\nmillion MTM per year in Los Angeles County. We will help you understand the science behind MTM and how the intervention fits within a patient’s care plan\, addresses nutrition insecurity\, and provides a cost-effective treatment for many chronic health conditions. We’ll discuss how MTM has been taking root in government conference rooms and in doctors’ exam rooms. You’ll be able to offer this service to your patients knowing that it can help them\, as one of our clients said\, “go from feeling like they’re on their deathbed to feeling like they’re dancing in the streets.” \nLearning Outcomes: At the end of this presentation\, attendees will be able to:\n1. Define a “medically tailored meal” and understand the role of nutrition education in a medically tailored meal intervention -- including how the treatment might look for exemplar chronic health conditions of diabetes\, chronic kidney disease\, congestive heart failure\, and HIV/AIDS.\n2. Describe the impact of medically tailored meals on improving health outcomes\, reducing healthcare costs\, and increasing patient quality of life.\n3. Recognize how the Food as Medicine movement is elevating the profile and availability of medically tailored meals around the country – and especially in California. \nPresenters:\nBenjamin R. Martin\, J.D.\, Director of Programs & Strategy\, Project Angel Food\nMax Schroder\, RDN\, M.Ed.\, Registered Dietitian\, Project Angel Food \nTopic 3\nPreconception and Interoception Health Impacts on Maternal & Infant Health\nIn many under-resourced communities\, pregnant individuals often face limited access to early and regular healthcare. This lack of access\, combined with bias and mistrust of the healthcare system\, disproportionately affects pregnancy and birth outcomes of some populations. By adopting a patient-centered approach to care\, we hope to build trust to aid in improving both birth outcomes and the infant's first year of life. This presentation underscores the critical importance of understanding one's health before and between pregnancies\, highlighting how undiagnosed and unmanaged chronic diseases can significantly impact pregnancies and maternal and infant health outcomes. \nLearning Outcomes: At the end of this presentation\, attendees will be able to:\n1. Compare information presented against current knowledge.\n2. Identify strategies that may drive better maternal and infant health outcomes.\n3. Discuss the importance of understanding one's health before and between pregnancies with birthing people. \n3 Contact Hours\nBRN - CEP 14032\nCCM - Activity Code Pending\nApproval Code - Pending \nProvider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing\, Provider #CEP14032 for 3 contact hours. \nTickets\n$50.00 Member Registration\n$60.00 Non-Member Registration\n$175.00 CMSA-SCC Vendor Booth (Please register as 'guest')

SUMMARY:CMSA Central Virginia (1 CE) - Digital Health Tools: Improving Patient Outcomes
DESCRIPTION:Information Here \n\n\n\n\n\n\nDigital Health Tools: Improving Patient Outcomes\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTechnology is changing how physical\, occupational\, speech\, and other therapies are delivered in today’s broad healthcare system. Digital health tools enable patients and caregivers to engage more frequently with therapists\, improving adherence to home exercise programs and overall accountability. \nBy incorporating telehealth and Remote Therapy Monitoring into a patient’s care plan\, therapists can ensure continuous support and engagement\, leading to faster recovery times and better results. Research shows that patients who participate in digital health programs are more motivated to complete their exercises and remain committed to their rehabilitation\, leading to better outcomes. \nIn this webinar\, we will look at: \n\nDefine Therapeutic Remote Monitoring and its role in improving outcomes\nHow case managers can help patients build functional independence\nHow remote therapeutic monitoring improves outcomes and returns to the highest level of function\n\nCost: Members of CMSA: FREE | Non-Members: $25.00 \nSpeaker: Steve Kiak\, PT\, DPT\, Cora Rehabilitation

SUMMARY:CMSA National (1CE) - Improving Hypertension Control in the Black and African American Population
DESCRIPTION:Registration & Information here! \nImproving Hypertension Control in the Black and African American Population\nHypertension remains a leading risk factor for cardiovascular and renal disease\, with well-documented disparities in both prevalence and control across racial groups. Our Population Health team conducted an in-depth analysis of hypertension control outcomes\, stratified by race\, to better understand inequities within our patient population. This analysis revealed that Black and African American patients were 7% less likely to have controlled hypertension compared to other racial groups. This finding is particularly concerning given that Black and African American individuals are approximately 30% more likely to develop hypertension\, underscoring a critical and persistent health inequity. \nUncontrolled hypertension significantly increases the risk of adverse health outcomes\, including myocardial infarction\, stroke\, heart failure\, dementia\, and chronic kidney disease—conditions that substantially diminish quality of life and contribute to increased healthcare utilization and costs. Recognizing the disproportionate burden borne by Black and African American patients\, our team prioritized targeted interventions aimed at improving hypertension control within this population. \nGrounded in evidence demonstrating that effective blood pressure management can prevent or delay the onset of chronic disease\, we implemented focused outreach and care strategies to support improved clinical outcomes. By addressing both short-term blood pressure control and long-term cardiovascular risk\, this work represents a critical step toward reducing health disparities and advancing equitable health outcomes for Black and African American patients. \nObjectives: \n\nDescribe and demonstrate the process used in the development of a health equity hypertension patient centered education program.\nIdentify the evidence-based practices established to improve the patient engagement in managing their hypertension.\nDiscuss and evaluate the outcome measures used to determine the success of the educational provided to this population.\n\nFee: $20 \n1 hour RN\, SW\, and CCM credits. \nPresenters:\n- Carissa Huff\, LPN\, MSA\, Quality Project Manager II\n- Maria Tout\, MHSA\, Health Equity Specialist\nTrinity Health IHA Medical Group

SUMMARY:CMSA National (1CE) - Evolving from a Good to Great (G2G) Case Manager
DESCRIPTION:Register Here! \nEvolving from a Good to Great (G2G) Case Manager \n1 hr RN\, CCM\, SW  \nMembers:  $0\nNon-Members: $40  \nABSTRACT:   \nWhat does it mean to be great and good? And why do case managers need to consider being great? Doesn’t a performance review with a superior score mean greatness? Please don’t misunderstand; being a good case manager is not negative. Becoming a great case manager means reaching your full potential and engaging in continuous improvement.  \nA G2G journey needs attention\, support\, and constant evaluation. Somewhat like a garden. Start small like a seedling. As you sprout\, with leaves\, buds and stems reaching for the sun while receiving the right amount of water and nutrients. Doing what you do best produces valuable\, sustainable results equal to colorful flowers in my garden metaphor. Yes\, becoming great and good is challenging but necessary. Our patients/clients\, families and communities need more than good from us. American healthcare is fractured and complicated; medical language is confusing and our reimbursement methods are a mystery. We have to be good and great case managers!  \nThis interactive session explores how case managers can evolve from good to great. Practical tips and strategies will be reviewed and applied for your G2G journey.  \nOBJECTIVES:  \n\nDefine a good and great case manager. \nIdentify internal and external elements that influence the evolution of a great case manager. \nIntegrate three key goals into your professional case management G2G evolution. \n\n  \nPRESENTER BIO:   \nElaine Bruner\, MSN\, RN\, CMGT-BC\, FCM\, is an experienced nurse\, case manager\, and educator. Elaine was awarded the CMSA Award of Service Excellence in 2008. She embraces her educator role\, authoring manuscripts\, offering national and regional continuing education presentations\, and coaching case managers to certification success. She currently serves on the Editorial Board of CMSAToday. Elaine has served on the CMSA Military/Veteran/DoD/DHA (MVD) Planning Committee since 2021 and became Co-Chair in 2024. In 2025\, Elaine joined the CMSA Board of Directors and was honored to be inducted as a CMSA Fellow in Case Management.

In the clinical setting\, it’s easy to get lost in the "trees"—the tremors\, the slow gait\, and the stiff\nlimbs. This talk provides the "aerial view" needed to distinguish the broad clinical syndrome of Parkinsonism\nfrom the specific neurodegenerative pathologies hiding within it. By learning to see the forest for the trees\,\nclinicians and caregivers can better predict specific disease trajectories and craft the most appropriate\nroadmaps for care. \nSPEAKER:\nVictoria Schuppe\, PT\, DPT\, OCS\, CHT\, LSVT\nClinical Programs and Rehabilitation Liaison; Paragon Management SNF\, LLC \nSPEACIAL GUEST SPEAKER:\nAnn Warren - Development Manager\, New York Chapter; Parkinson’s\nFoundation \nRSVP: APRIL 8\, 2026 \n(This program has been submitted for 2.0 CEU’s to the Commission for Case Manager Certification for approval \nto provide board-certified case managers and the NYS Education Department’s State Board for Social Work as an \napproved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers #SW-0865)
