CMSA President's message 2026
Dear CMSA Members and Case Management Colleagues,
Case Management Week is an opportunity to celebrate the dedication, compassion, and expertise you bring to patients, families, and healthcare teams every day. As your CMSA President, I am honored to recognize your contributions and the commitment that connects us across practice settings, local chapters, and our broader professional community. Your work reflects a shared belief that effective care begins with understanding the person behind the diagnosis.
The themes Reconnect, Recognize, Reignite, and Rise invite us to reflect on our purpose, celebrate our professional identity, and consider the future we want to build together. By embracing this celebration, we give ourselves permission to pause, appreciate our accomplishments, and rekindle the spark that first inspired us to become case managers.
Reconnect is to return to the relationships and values that give our work meaning. Busy schedules, complex care needs, and administrative demands can leave little time for reflection. Yet our purpose often becomes clear in everyday moments: helping a patient understand a care plan, listening to a caregiver’s concerns, or collaborating with a colleague to overcome a barrier. I encourage you to reach out to a mentor, participate in a local chapter activity, or welcome someone new to our profession. These connections strengthen our practice and remind us that we belong to a community willing to share knowledge, encouragement, and support.
Recognize is to acknowledge the contributions that too often remain unseen. Behind a successful transition of care may be hours of coordination, advocacy, education, and problem-solving. Behind a patient’s growing confidence may be a case manager who listened carefully and explained the next steps with patience. This week, make your appreciation personal. Thank a colleague for their persistence, celebrate a creative solution, and acknowledge those who help others grow. As leaders and peers, we have a responsibility to ensure that case managers understand the value of their work and feel supported in carrying it forward.
Reignite is to renew the energy and curiosity that sustain our professional commitment. Reconnecting with the value of our contributions can restore a sense of purpose, while addressing burnout also requires practical support, manageable demands, and opportunities for rest. An educational program, a mentoring relationship, or a meaningful conversation can inspire fresh ideas. Remembering a time when our advocacy helped someone move forward can renew our enthusiasm. Let us also support work environments where colleagues can ask for help, express concerns, and care for their own well-being.
Rise is to turn that renewed purpose into action. Leadership is demonstrated whenever a case manager speaks up about an unmet need, improves a process, or supports a colleague through a challenge. Each of us has the ability to influence care and strengthen our profession. Through CMSA and our local chapters, we can share experience, welcome new perspectives, encourage emerging leaders, and advocate for care that respects each individual’s needs, preferences, and goals.
I invite you to make this Case Management Week both celebratory and meaningful. Attend a local chapter or workplace celebration, reconnect with someone who has influenced your journey, and recognize a colleague whose efforts deserve appreciation. Where available, share a state or local proclamation recognizing Case Management Week to help raise awareness of our profession’s contributions. Use this occasion to tell the story of case management and the difference your work makes.
To every case manager across CMSA, our local chapters, and the broader case management community, thank you for the expertise you share, the relationships you build, and the advocacy you provide. You help individuals and families navigate healthcare uncertainty with greater understanding and support. I am proud to serve alongside you as we continue to learn, lead, and advance our profession.
Happy Case Management Week! May we reconnect with our purpose, recognize one another’s contributions, reignite our passion, and rise together.
With appreciation,
Jenny Quigley-Stickney, MSN, RN, MHA, MA, CCM, ACM-RN, CMAC, CPHM, FCM
