Wide Awake Local Anesthesia No Tourniquet (WALANT) is a surgical technique that allows many hand and wrist procedures to be safely performed in an office setting using local anesthesia without sedation or a tourniquet. Patients remain awake, enabling surgeons to assess movement and function during the procedure while reducing anesthesia related risks. WALANT improves efficiency, lowers costs, minimizes preoperative requirements, and shortens recovery time, creating a safe, convenient, and patient-centered alternative to traditional operating room surgery.
